Ethernet Media Access Controller (mac)

This dissertation researches the design and implementation of Ethernet MAC controller, which is incorporated with the project of network processor. The main content of this dissertation is the design of a lOM/lOOMbps Ethernet MAC controller and PCI bus interface. Finally this dissertation finishes the design of Ethernet MAC controller IP core, the PCI bus interface of which is configurable. The IP core is tested by simulation tools as well as verified by FPGA.In this research, the premise of the system design is understanding of Ethernet MAC protocol and PCI bus specification. The key of the system design is the analysis of the architecture of Ethernet MAC controller and the partition of sub module. Based on the analysis and study of some successful architecture, this dissertation finishes the design of the Ethernet MAC controller, and it has also completed the function simulation of this IP core as well as timing simulation afer placing & routing. The correctness and practicability of this design is validated.This dissertation finishes the design of 10M/100Mbps Ethernet MAC controller IP core, the PCI bus interface of which is configurable. It has contributed to the research on the Ethernet MAC controller with own intellectual property.
