Since the advent of the internet, people’s life has changed a lot and people’sdependence on network is gradually increasing. Besides, with the constantdevelopment of technology and improvement of people’s living standards, people putforward a higher performance requirement for Ethernet transport. The generation ofGigabit Ethernet conforms to the trend. The development of technology has broughtthe increase of the amount of information, and then research on stable transmission ofthese data becomes a hot topic. Making use of Gigabit Ethernet interface to transmitthe data is supposed to be a method that can exploit the existing network resource andinterface to reduce the costs on designing and transmission. FPGA’s advantages likehigh integration, design flexibility and so on appeal to more and more engineers. This thesis introduces a Gigabit Ethernet interface design method which is basedon FPGA. This method takes advantage of FPGA to complete the network data dealtand establishes a SOPC system to control the Ethernet transport. By doing theseworks, the system can complete the network transmission of data. Firstly, the thesismakes an introduction on basic theory of Ethernet and knowledge on IP core and PHYchip involved in design. Secondly, with this basis and the idea of modular design, itcompletes a common Gigabit Ethernet interface design which is based on SOPCsystem. Finally, this thesis shows two applications in actual system using this GigabitEthernet, the transmission of digital television baseband signal and an X-ray imagecapture system based on Gigabit Ethernet. The above common Gigabit Ethernetinterface design can be modified and debugged according to the different requirement, and it indicates that the design on Gigabit Ethernet interface has a stable and flexibleperformance. This system can meet the need of the design.
