Based On The Perl Snmp Network Management

As modern networks grow in complexity and heterogeneity, network management becomes increasingly important.To answer the challenges of designing an effective network management platform for heterogeneous networks, the SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) was defined and published.Perl (practical extraction and report language) is a powerful programming language. Furthermore, the SNMP support for Perl is fairly perfect based on the characteristics of Perl.Firstly, a brief overview of the history and main concepts, techniques of network management is provided. Then the architecture is presented and the tendency of network management system is analysed in the thesis.Secondly, to demonstrate how SNMP works, there is a need for describing the basics of SNMP, covering its major components including MIB (Management Information Base, MIB), community string, trap, and other technical elements.Thirdly, special attention is given to the power and flexibility of Perl and the SNMP support for Perl is introduced in the thesis.Fourthly, after some key points in developing a network management system aimed small and middle scale computer network are explained, the prototype of network management based on SNMP with Perl is produced. Then the designing and implementation of the prototype is discussed. The main focus of the discussion is on the realization and the Perl programming of the configuration management, performance management and fault management in network management system.Finally, the research of network management based on SNMP with perl is summarized and some suggestion on how to improve the system is given in the thesis.
