Wireless Ad hoc network is a kind of highly survivable and self-healing wireless network since it can be formed and self-configured by nodes without the aid of any network infrastructure. There are many challenges in management of Ad hoc networks due to their features such as wireless communication, node movement, and multi-hop routing. Since the basic task of network management is to present the network topology to the network administrator, topology management of Ad hoc networks is one of the research issues in network management. The main contents of this thesis are as follows. Firstly, the requirements of wireless Ad hoc network management is analyzed according to its characteristics, then a three-level network management architecture based on ANMP protocol is designed and implemented. The functions of the designed network management architecture include network topology management, fault management, and security management. Secondly, a dynamic topology management model is established for wireless Ad hoc network based on the neighbor discovery technology in TBRPF routing protocol. By asynchronously reporting neighbor changes to the network manager, this management model tremendously reduces topology management overhead compared to the traditional polling-based topology management scheme. Test results in the experimental ad hoc network indicate that the implemented network management architecture and topology management model show expected performances.
