Network Topology Discovery Based On SNMP

With the rapid development of network, various large and heterogeneous networks bring difficulties and challenges to managers. An urgent need arises, that is network management of the system. An effective network management system can monitor, control and explain all kinds of the network devices and ther software resources in real time and achieve the purpose of reliable, safe and efficient operation of the network. Therefore, network management has become an important part of the current network technology research. This paper first explains the concept and basic functions of network management. Analyzes the logical model of network management system in detail and expounds the current research situation and development trend of network management. On this basis, SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) is studied and the overall framework of the network management system based on SNMP is proposed. Because topology discovery is the foundation of network management system, this paper focuses on network topology discovery algorithm. For the two class specific research work: monitoring network layer topology discovery and network connection of each port, in this paper the existing routing algorithms, realizes topology discovery based on routing table, the correspondence between logical topology and physical topology. Finally, this paper based on the research and implementation of the topology discovery algorithm, a real-time monitoring system for active nodes in the network is designed. According to the dynamic setting of polling frequency on the performance parameters in the network equipment; setting a reasonable threshold for each parameter, provide alarm function; real-time monitoring server, providing historical data to the server, real-time data analysis and statistical function too. According to the algorithm of this paper, the network management system has been applied in related enterprises,and has achieved good results.
