With the rapid growth of various IP Services, IP Network isevolving to a common multi-service transmission platform. But its "besteffort" transport model is not qualified for providing multi-mediaapplications and providing QoS guarantees according to customers'special requests. In contrast with IPv4, IPv6 is greatly improved on IPaddress number, packet structure, network management and so on, butmake limited progress in QoS and still use a "best effort" transportmodel。It also has a lot of problems in controllability, manageability andbusiness model. Therefore it is essential to provide a practical QoSmechanism and achieve QoS management together with servicemanagement. Then QoS becomes an extreme difficult problem ofInternet. The project "Research on CNGI QoS Mechanism, KeyNetwork-constructing Technique and Correlative Implementation" aimsat improving IP QoS Mechanism, enhancing QoS capability and settingup a controllable, manageable IP QoS management system. "Researchand Implementation on IP Network Topology Management in CNGI QoSManagement System" is a sub-project of "Research on CNGI QoSMechanism, Key Network-constructing Technique and CorrelativeImplementation". It researches on topology discovery, topology update, topology storage and topology display of IP network in an administrationdomin.Firstly, this thesis gives a brief introduction of IP QoS, IPv6technologies and project "Research on CNGI QoS Mechanism, KeyNetwork-constructing Technique and Correlative Implementing".Secondly, the position and the function of network topologysubsystem in the whole architecture is discussed in detail. By analyzing the CNGI QoS management system and available methods of topologymanagement, this paper presents a new network topology managementmethod. The designing, implementation and testing of network topologysubsystem is described at length, including the designing andimplementation of each module, the database design, and the subsysteminterfaces design. Finally, both the advantages and deficiencies of the subsystems aresummarized, and the possible meliorations are proposed.
