The ground fissures and land subsidence in geological hazard restricted the city planning and construction of Xi'an; Attention from governments at all levels has been taken into this field in recent years. At present, the study of geological disasters has been worked over 50 years, and a great deal of data has been accumulated. Modern information technology is highly required for the effective use of the accumulated data and for further study and research. This paper finished the initial stage of the comprehensive development of the Geographic Information System of Ground Fissures and Land Subsidence of Xi'an City (hereinafter referred to as XADD-GIS), by applying the geographic information system and the spatial database construction theory. It is expected to provide reliable backing and guarantee for the study and prevention of the two geographical disasters with the newly developed system in this paper.The Design and Implementation of system is in strict accordance with the idea of software engineering, it adopts object-oriented ideas and methods throughout the whole system. In design, mainstream tools and software (ArcEngine93 COM and C#.NET) are used to design and complete the whole development work. During this period, a series of key technical issues related to system design and implementation were encountered and resolved. The following are the staged achievement the designer made:1. The system is a design and implement of the general system framework based on c#.net + ArcEngine special information system. It can be applied to various special information systems.2. Based on the spatial database system, adopting the latest technology, the system owns the basic function of the application geographic information system and the common operations, such as management, statistics, display, enquiry and analysis of ground fissures and land subsidence special data.3. Object-oriented design ideas and plug-in framework design mode makes the system of compact structure and module partition complete cohesive reasonable, by testing, the operation of the system owns the features of good stability, superior openness and high reliability.4. On the backend database connections, by using XML serialization and serialized technology, system provides various connection way, makes the system and database communication between more flexible.5. Try adopting MultiPath method and irregular triangle mesh modeling technologyand making use of the actual sample borehole data, the system realizes the function of three-dimensional modeling and cutting of big strata in Xi'an.
