Though safety of mine production is ensured by the development of the domestic mine safety monitoring system, coal mine accidents still occurred very frequently. Raising the technological level of coal mine safety monitoring system is an urgent affair. Wireless sensor network (WSN) which focuses on low rate wireless application is worked up in many fields. The thesis introduces a design scheme of coal mine safety monitoring system, which takes full advantage of WSN, combines CAN bus communication technique, so that whole orientation, real time monitoring of various environmental and operation parameters, and equipment controlling can be realized for mine production as to effectively avoid possible disasters caused by the gas, fire and so on.The thesis analyzes various Coal Mine Safety Monitoring Systems both domestic and abroad. The feasibility and exaltation of safety monitoring system based on WSN is proved. ZigBee technique based on IEEE802.15.4 protocol is chosen as the communication platform of WSN by contrasting the features of IEEE802.15.4 technique and Ultra Wide Band (UWB) technology which widely used in WSN. Combining the characteristic of the data stream in Coal Mine Safety Monitoring Systems, the communication platform of WSN using wireless transceiver CC2420 is realized.This thesis has developed the fixed node and the wireless mobile node using the wireless transceiver CC2420 and C8051Fxx MCU. The stack based on the IEEE802.15.4 protocol is realized. The communication platform based on the CAN bus and WSN for Coal Mine Safety Monitoring Systems is designed and proved to work well. Finally, the thesis presents a proposal for future work.
