In recent years, coal mine accidents are still frequent. The huge losses have been caused for the lives and property of the state and people. In order to meet the needs of economic development, the safety issue of coal mine has become a priority while developing the coal industry. This subject is designate to improve the current undeveloped coal mine production safety monitoring technology,solve some of the hardships encountered. Using the advantages of Wireless Sensor Network(WSN) in Coal Mine Safety Monitoring and breaking through the traditional route of monitoring technology ,it will provide scientific and reliable monitoring data.A set of Coal Mine Safety Monitoring System program based on wireless sensor networks has been put forward in this paper, combining the key technologies of WSN and the shortcomings of existing coal mine safety monitoring systems.The system can not only monitor the temperature, humidity and gas concentrations of coal mine real-time, but also realize the staff attendance. The system is composed by the coordinator, mobile nodes, fixed nodes and ground control centers. Coordinator is the primary node in the system network, his role is to initialize network and to manage the sub nodes, also to send the data from other nodes to the ground control center. Mobile nodes and fixed nodes are sub-nodes in the system, their role are to collect data and to send the data to the coordinator node through a wireless network. Every staff wears a mobile node. The mobile nodes send their address identifies regularly and records time when they send data. According to the time record of starting and ending, we can determine the miners working hours, further the system realizes the staff attendance. The running condition of the whole system is monitored by the ground control center, control instructions are sent according to data issued from underground.The design of hardware and software of the system has been introduced, the design of hardware includes wireless communication module circuit, sensor application circuit, communications interface circuits, power, optical vibration and sound alarm circuit designs, the design of software includes data acquisition, communication between nodes, wireless network monitoring centers of communication with the ground, ground monitoring center monitoring software. A design of coal mine safety monitoring system based on ZigBee standard has been presented in this paper, while a network test and data transmission test have been done .The results show that this system can do long distance communication and gather the parameter of the coal mine environment which needs the requirements of coal mine security monitoring.The WSN technology has been used in the design of coal mine safety monitoring system, The wireless transmission of data has been achieved in coal mine, making up for the deficiencies in existing coal mine monitoring systems, it is a practical and innovative, and new field are opened up for the application of WSN.
