Frequency synthesizer is playing a more and more important role in the development of technology of telecommunication, digital TV, aeronautics, astronautics, radar, navigation etc. In order to get abundant distributed frequency of high stability and high precision, frequency synthesis needs improving all the time. Now, the frequency synthesis technology can be divided into four categories: directed frequency synthesizer, phase-locked loop frequency synthesizer, directed digital frequency synthesizer and composite frequency synthesizer. But phase-locked loop frequency synthesizer is now the most popular in our use.First this thesis has discussed the trend of frequency synthesizer at home and abroad, pointing the distance between our country and some developed countries and the way we should go; second, summarized the basic theory of frequency synthesis technology, introduced some kinds of frequency synthesizer and their advantages and disadvantages, especially phase-locked loop frequency synthesizer; third, described the theory of phase-locked loop, structure, work principle and design rule, meanwhile presented the circuits we designed and simulation results; last, discussed the stability of our circuits at the base of two order charge pump phase-locked loop structure. The main work of this thesis include: A stable CPPLL structure is proposed. The charge-sharing is avoided. The leakage current of CP is reduced. The output of VCO is well regulated. The divided value can be changed manually. The PD signal is added to achieve low power design. The whole simulation is based 1st 0.18um polycide spice process, and the simulation is accomplished by star-spice.
