Since 1950s of 20th Century, with the rapid development of computer technology, the analysis and optimization technology for engineering design have changed greatly. The combining integration of computing technology, applied mathematics, mechanics, computer graphics and software technology are promoting the design concepts, theories, methods, techniques and the tools of progress, the design theory and application of new technologies to unprecedented prosperity. Meanwhile, with the development of shipbuilding industry, the requirement of deck crane is becoming higher and higher. So the design calculation method of deck crane need to be renewed, substantiated and consummated constantly to make deck crane more functional, economic, reliable and safe. For a long time, the design method of deck crane adopts the static design and has no valid method of dynamic emulation. If the technique of virtual prototype is introduced in study of port machinery, it can realize emulation the running state of each mechanism under various working conditions. Results from the emulation are used to estimate and judge different data of actual movement. What have mentioned above provides technique support for the creative design and optimization of crane, and plays an important part in expediting the development cycle and reducing the cost.This paper bases on the technique of virtual prototype and utilizes software platform of UG, ADAMS and ANSYS to establish three-dimensional digitized virtual prototype of deck crane and systematically do its analysis of dynamics emulation of multi-body system. The main contents include:(1) The calculation of dynamics loads: establish related dynamics models and ascertains dynamics load under different working conditions according to dynamics theories;(2) The emulation of rigid body system: adopt three-dimensional solid modeling software of UG to establish three-dimensional models of deck and lead them to the software of ADAMS. Then, add loads and force on every component and do theirs analysis of dynamics emulation of mufti-body system;(3) The emulation of flexible body system: useing the finite element software of ANSYS, establish the flexible body of the main jib and auxiliary jib , lead them to ADAMS and do do theirs analysis of dynamics emulation in different conditions.In a word, the virtual prototype study of deck crane is a trial that apply advanced design, analysis and simulation techniques in design of port crane and offers efficient method to design deck crane that is economic, credible, stable and high performance.
