Wireless meter reading is one method reading and processing data automatically with thetechnology of worknet and communication. It is the need of improving the automatic level ofenergy consumption and the necessity of rapid development of network and communicationtechnology too. It not only may relieve reading person's labor intensity, reduce the readingmistake, but also has the advantage of high speed and good real-time.ZigBee is a new global standard for wireless conununieations,with the characteristics oflow-cost,low Power consumption,low datarate. The ZigBee Protocol based on IEEE 802.15.4standard will be embedded in thousands of ZigBee node,which can communieate easily withpower-efficient. It has a good market in building automation, wireless meter-reading andindustrial controls.This paper, firstly, introduces the background of wireless meter-reading, and the history ofthe automation meter-reading system. Secondly, it also introduces the theory knowledge of theZigBee protocol stack from the network (NWK) layer and application layer to the physical(PHY) layer and the medium aceess control (MAC) sub-layer. Following, shows the theory ofconstruction of the wireless meter-reading, and building the wireless network and transferringdate etc, and designing that from the hardware design and the software the realization ofwireless meter-reading node.Lastly, this paper designs the self-adaptation mechanism of load balancing on the ZigBeenetwork. Basing on the load non-balancing problem that may arise, farther lead to the bottleneckof data transmission in the ZigBee network, so we publish the self-adaptation mechanism of thenetwork. Lastly, by analysis and simulation, we get the result which can see the self-adaptationmechanism can effectively solve the bottleneck of the transferring date in the ZigBee networkand improve efficiency.Our experiments show that our proposed solution achieves the design requirement withsatisfying flexibility and expansibility. Consequently, it acts as a plat form of wireless monitorsystem and supplies a new hardware design approach for wireless ZigBee networks.
