Ethernet passive optical networks (EPON) are emerging access network technology that provides a low-cost method of deploying optical access lines between a carrier's central office and a customer site. An optical-fiber access system of IPTV over EPON is designed in our project, which can provide multimedia traffics to customers. In this way, the triple play will become true.Firstly, this article give an introduction of various multimedia encoding technology. And MPEG-2 system is introduced detailedly, because MPEG-2 protocol is chosen to act as multimedia encoding standard. In this IPTV system, digital Video signal is encoded to TS and packed up to send to network. This article introduced the hardware design of a kind of network process system based on U1 network processor. And introduced the hardware performance and resource of U1. This article described the hardware design scheme and the achievement of circuit.Then this article introduced the interface conversion between the network process system and SPI. Introduced the hardware design of the interface based on J1 and F1 F, This article introduced the CPLD programming of J1.Finally, the system's test scheme and result is presented at the end of this paper.
