Abstract/Summary:
Along with the development and prevalence of Internet, its data capacity increases quickly. When backbone network is gradually consummated, access network has become the bottleneck of service access.EPON (Ethernet Passive Optical Network) is a new technology used to resolve user access network which has been paid widely attention. HFC (Hybrid Fiber Coaxial) network is one of the biggest networks in our country which broadcasts the CATV signal traditionally. In this paper, RF overlay EPON system is discussed as an application of EPON in CATV broadband access network. And the RF overlay EPON is the ideal access technology to support triple-play services today.In order to manage and configure this network well, we recommend using SNMP to build the network management system. The principle and structure of the SNMP is studied, and a case of RF overlay EPON system managed by SNMP is discussed. Equipment management and the designing of MIB (Management Information Base) are the focus of discussion.The paper is arranged as follows.Chapter 1: Introduce broadband access network and several access technologies.Chapter 2: Depict the structure of EPON, the function of every component in EPON system. The technology in upstream and downstream of EPON is discussed.Chapter 3: Introduce the HFC network and gives the whole design scheme of the RF overlay EPON system.Chapter 4: Introduce the function of network management, the client/sever mode in SNMP, the structure of the MIB.Chapter 5: Discuss how the RF overlay EPON system managed by SNMP. Then a case of equipment management and MIB compiling is given.Chapter 6: Make a summary.
