Compared with the conventional communications that uses sinusoidal carriers to transmit information, ultra wide-band (UWB) communications which uses very narrow pulses to carry information is a new kind of communication system. Because it has many advantages, such as high system capacity, low probability of interception and detection, wide bandwidth, high robustness to multi-path interference and fine time resolution, and so on. So it has recently attracted significant academic and commercial interest. However, the detection of feeble UWB signals is difficult. In this paper, generating and processing of PPM baseband signals for Ultra Wideband communications is studyed. Meanwhile, high data rate PPM-UWB communication systems have been complemented and tested in indoor short-haul environment.Firstly, the basic concept and characteristic of UWB technology is introduced, And then compositive structure of UWB communication systems are given. Based on the above information, the paper designs the circuit of PPM signal. Meanwhile, presents a novel, simple and realizable scheme of multiple-path parallel synchronization and acquisition according to the characteristics of high-speed PPM-UWB signal and the multi-path model for indoor UWB channels, Which disposes the synchronization cell in baseband circuits, realizes the ideal combination of baseband circuit and RF circuit by multiple-path parallel controllable RF integrator and simplify the design of UWB receiver. By modeling, designing in VHDL, and down-loading the designed programs into a FPGA hardware. Finally, By the research of the generating and the receiving methods of high data rate 100Mbps PPM-UWB signal, a UWB experiment communication system was implemented and tested in indoor environment, the results show that the methods presented in this paper are feasible.
