With the science and technology's development, the television technology and the computer technology have been the main method of modern information dissemination and the information processing. The video overlap system is one of multimedia technical application domains, is product of the television technology and the computer technology. It can overlap real-time character or graph information on original video signal, produced and increased the information which the original video can't express in time, thus it has obtained widespread application in navigation or avigation as well as industry control.This dissertation is reseaching the video synchronization and format convertion part of video overlap system. On the basis of reading relevant literature and grasping relevant theories thoroughly, this paper has developed DVI, VGA interface circuit, According to the requirement of the system, utilized FPGA technology to implement the reconstruction of synchronous timing signal of TV video and video form comversion. Meanwhile, finished the system's hardware design, software programming and the last performance parameter testing as well. This article introduced the software and hardware design method and the implementation plan of video processing system based on FPGA technology in detail.The video synchronization and format convertion system disscussed in this paper has implemented precise synchronization in nonstandard video format VGA and DVI interface to TV video signal convertion. The pure hardware design does not need software to drive, plug and play. It can work in external synchronization mode and local mode. the synchronized timing and the video display have achieved the anticipated design.
