As a major energy source in China, Coal occupies an important position in the national economy. Mine Safety is an important guarantee for the healthy and orderly development of the coal enterprises. The major coal production of our country is from underground mining, which suffers high risk because of the special environment underground. Meanwhile, China's coal industry distribution is rather dispersed, which impedes the information transmission. In order to monitor and manage the coal production effectively, it is in urgent need of a real-time monitoring on the production of the mine accurately and timely. Based on an extensive research on the coal production, we have designed an intelligent coal safety monitoring system which is based on the newly developed Zigbee technology and the wireless network.Based on the basic theory of wireless sensor networks and domestic production technical actuality, we have adopted the computer-control technology, Zigbee technology and GPRS technology, and have proposed a comprehensive utilization of distance-monitoring, information management and network technology in one system. This essay discusses the basic principles of wireless sensor networks, functional designation of underground surveillance terminal and the ground monitoring center structure. The application of the GPRS network, data transmission based on the Zigbee wireless sensor nodes, sets up a wireless network which changes the constraints of the traditional wireless sensor networks that needs to rely on public cable network for data transmission. Thus, the network shows significant advantages.Based on the discussion above, the works we have done in practice are detailed in this essay as followings: The first part is a discussion of development of the Mine Safety Monitoring System and the existing problems, a comparison of various communication technologies applied in existing distance-monitoring System, and the best communication choice in this system; Secondly we describe the Zigbee wireless sensor technology in detail, how can the wireless network combine with GPRS and Zigbee technology, also focus on the technical detail; Then, the use of multi-sensor data fusion technique based on fuzzy reasoning will be described; The last part is thesystem test and analysis of test results, and finally I sum up my work on this subject,the further perfection of the system envisaged.
