The globe wireless communication markets have developed rapidly during recent years. Not limited in mobile telephony service, the integrated services as data communication and multimedia communication has become a growing trend and R&D hot spot. The telecommunication developers and manufactures now focus on the research of the key techniques for 3 generation (3G) and post 3G wireless communication systems and the development of 3G wireless communication equipment。OMAP5910 is the first general Open Multimedia Application Processor which focuses on Embedded Application, and it can provide transmission of voice and multimedia.The thesis introduces development and optimization of MPEG-4"baseline"encoder and JPEG encoder on the DSP core of OMAP5910. The tasks which we have fulfilled are: exploiting the algorithm and instruction-level parallelism inherent in the MPEG-4 encoder; making full use of the capabilities of the processor, such as its powerful instruction set and versatile DMA controller; and utilizing such tool chain capabilities as code sectioning and code overlay; optimizing the code on the C language level and Assembly language level, and so on.The MPEG-4 encoder can afford 33fps encoding performance for QCIF resolution video now. The JPEG encoder can finish resolutions conversion and JPEG encode for an image of 1600*1200 resolution in 2.2s.
