In this thesis we describe the research and implementation of 3G wireless multimedia terminal based on TI OMAP5910 dual-core processor. We design the hardware platform for 3G wireless terminal based on TI OMAP5910 dual-core processor and implements multimedia functions which can satisfy the need of 3G wireless communication.Based on TI OMAP5910 processor, we design the hardware platform and implement dual CMOS camera sensors, LCD displayer, MMC/SD card, USB host and USB client interface, keypad, touch screen and several serial data interface. If the hardware platform can be connected with digital base band and RF chipset, it can implement 3G wireless terminal. In the whole system, the design of dual cameras is the key innovation: the system chooses the camera with large image size to gather static image data and choose the other camera with small image size to gather video.In the system software layer, the system runs embedded Linux operating system and Microwindows GUI. The embedded Linux OS is burned in flash and the system can launch alone. The Microwindows GUI is in MMC/SD card and it is loaded during system launching.In this system we implement several multimedia functions based on TI OMAP5910 processor such as 2 Million (1600×1200) static image JPEG encoding, and the picture is saved in MMC/SD card; QVGA (320×240) and QCIF (176×144) MPEG-4 video decoding and displaying in real time, the QVGA decoding can be 30fps and QCIF decoding can be 100fps; QCIF MPEG-4 video encoding in real time and QVGA MPEG-4 video encoding, the QCIF video encoding can be 30fps and the QVGA video encoding can be 13fps. The encoding data (in avi format) can be saved in MMC/SD card; MP3 decoding and playing, bit rate can be 44.1Khz, 48Khz and 32Khz; AVI format data (MPEEG-4 video with MP3 audio) decoding and playing in real time.
