Study On Li Dazhao's Ideology Of Library Science

Li Dazhao, one of the founders of Chinese Communist Party, is an outstanding Marxist and a library scientist. When as a Director of the Library of Beijing University, Li Dazhao elaborated his theories of library science, and made the library the first class library at home at that time after making some rectification and reform. Li Dazhao has made outstanding contribution to the development of Chinese library cause, thus has been entitled the name of"the father of Chinese modern library". His thought of library science is the epitome of the modern Chinese thought of library science.Li Dazhao did not form his thought of library science on a move, he was stimulated by both internal and external conditions. The introduction of western library thought to China provided a theoretical foundation for the forming of Li Dazhao's thought of library science; The contemporary situation of the Chinese libraries' development in the early 20th century made a demand in the forming of Li Dazhao's thought of library science, while Beijing University Library acted as a platform for practicing Li Dazhao's thought of library science.Li Dazhao's ideology of library science has a rich connotation. He points out clearly that modern library has a nature of education, he is the earliest to elaborate theoretically the differences between school library and social library. He states that the modern library has an educational function, which should be made into full play by opening up more rooms for the readers and increasing the numbers of duplicates, which is a new tendency for the development of library. To meet new tendency, Li Dazhao has elaborated his thought of modern library management, thinking that in order to bring the educational function of the libraries into full play, we should attached great importance to the professional education of library science, and the training of librarians.Li Dazhao's ideology of library science was embodied in a series of practices in reforming the library of Beijing University.
