Gabriel Naude's Thoughts And Contributions To Library Science

Gabriel Naude's academic works on library management are the earliest introduction to library science,so he is known as "the father of library science" in the West."Advice on establishing a library" is written by Gabriel Naude based on the theories and ideas of his predecessors and his personal work experience.The central content is how to build and manage a rich private library for the privileged class.The book became a guide to his future management of the Mazarin Library and made it the best academic library in modern Europe.Gabriel Naude's library science thoughts and his practice during his term in the library have exerted a profound influence on the future scholars' research on the library operation mode and the history of library science.This paper uses the method of literature method,history method,comparative method and so on launches the research,by Gabriel Naude's life,works and library science and the thought to contribute to the overview of library science research institute,clarify Gabriel Naude's form in library science,library science talents training and the important influence of library development,etc,It is helpful for us to deepen our understanding of library science theory,enrich the study of western library science theory,clarify the development vein of the history of western library science in the process,strengthen the domestic research on the history of western library science,and contribute to the construction of library science discipline in China.The first part describes the general situation of Gabriel Naude's life(i.e.,his birth,occupation and contributions),and summarizes the literature mentioned by many scholars in the library field at home and abroad about Gabriel Naude.It can be found that the research trend of relevant literature is mainly inclined to the evaluation of Gabriel Naude's life contribution and the extension and application of some library science thoughts in contemporary times.After clear research status at home and abroad,the article second part will explore Gabriel Naude's library science thought formation of the historical background and theory origin,historical background mainly include the thought of the 14 th century to the 18 th century western cultural movement(i.e.,the Renaissance and the enlightenment).The theoretical sources are mainly the reference and development of interdisciplinary theoretical thoughts;The third part makes a visual analysis of Gabriel Naude's Advice on establishing a library,and summarizes his main thoughts of library science.His thoughts were put into practice in the construction and management of Mazarin Library and achieved great success.In the fourth part,Claude Clement,John Dury and Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz are three scholars who inherit and develop the academic thought of Gabriel Naude to some extent,so as to demonstrate his influence which cannot be ignored in the history of library science.Based on the foregoing,the fifth part discusses the historical value of Gabriel Naude to the current library practice in China.Gabriel Naude was deeply influenced by the humanism of the Renaissance and the emancipation of the Enlightenment.Through his writings,scholars can study the politics,economy,culture and library of 17 th century France.Gabriel Naude systematically discussed all the important links of modern library construction for the first time,combined the theory of library science with practice,and set up a model for the library research of later generations of librarians.
