Period Of The Republic Of Library Science In China Thought The Main Content And Characteristics

The Period of Republic of China (1912-1949) was essential for the rudiment and development of Chinese Library Science Thoughts. On one hand, this period inherited on the thoughts of document reservation and utilization of ancient China, and on the other hand, it adopted the advanced thoughts of library science from the western modern times. Eventually it developed its own characteristics. Through literature collection, reorganization and analysis we draw the conclusion that developed from conflict and compromise between the modern and the past, between China and western world, the library science thoughts during this period consisted of four aspects:opening for utilization, social education; public service and Culture save the nation from extinction. The four aspects interacted as both causes and effects, brought out the best to each other. They all promoted the library science thoughts system to improvement.The library science thoughts of this period exerted three characteristics in the process of rudiment:classical, foreign and Chinization. In the process of the thoughts system, It induces the professional education of library science in China, made the academic research of library science boom and push the Chinese libraries forward.Investigation on the library science thoughts of the Period of Republic of China is critical on the better understanding on the history of library science thoughts, propagation of the lofty sentiments of librarians'loving country, loving books, loving library and loving readers, and clarification of the arguments on whether library science was "Tao" or technology.
