Nowadays, with the development of modern technology, the wireless communication technique is used generally in many fields. Compared with wired devices,it possesses the advantages with low-cost, convenience, rout-fixing, especially, meets the application's needs of the communication of hand-holding devices, equipments powered by battery, remote control system, remote measure, small scale of wireless networks, wireless meter reading, guard monitor system, industrial data collection system, consumer identification, signal collection, environment and weather supervision, wireless data sound, digital image transmission, etc.With the project of the wireless meter reading for gas, the dissertation studies a new radio communication technology standard for short distance—ZigBee. With these applications, the standard is optimized for low data rate, low power consumption, security and reliability. The intended market space of applications using the ZigBee standard is industry control, consumption electronic devices, automation, agriculture automation and medicine device control. The ZigBee protocol is implemented on the top of IEEE 802.15.4 radio communication. IEEE 802.15.4 standard is a low-cost, efficient, low-data rate wireless technology, which operates on the band 2.4GHz and 868/915MHz. It can be used for personal area networks and mesh networks. ZigBee technology provides static and dynamic star, cluster tree and mesh networking structures. ZigBee could fill the vacancy of low-cost, low power consumption and low data rate wireless communication fields, with abundant and convenient applications.The article introduces the project's background, technology standard, principle application field and the realization of wireless sensor networks. The emphasis is the research about the radio communication system based on ZigBee, including the design and realization.The design and implementation about the radio communication system based on ZigBee technique includes the design of the hardware and the software. The hardware design includes the interface between the MCU and the transceiver module-MC13192, the design of the circuit outsides, the facture of the PCB. The software design includes the communication scheme of the networks, the planning and debugging for the wireless communication protocol, the simple communication test and the performance analysis.
