Study On Reader Service In Japanese Public Library

Reader service is an eternal topic in the work of the library, it is a basic task of the library, and it is the existence value of the library too. The library exists for reader, if there are no readers, the library needn't exist; if there are readers, but we can not do reader service well, it will mean that there is no value of the existence of the library. Japanese scholars think , the public library is set up by the taxpayer's money, readers utilizing the library and accepting the library service , is not" bestowed " , does not" enjoy the welfare ", but " realize the right ". Japanese library existed as the bureaucracy of" leading the thought" during the long time in prewar, but put" library service " in the most outstanding position in the library law after the war, and has stipulated the concrete content of the library service in details . The activity of library taking service as centre, has changed the image of the library in Japan's national mind fundamentally, and have improved the social cognitive degree of the library greatly too. We can say, the establishment of the library service idea is the basic reason that leads Japanese library development along a brand-new direction after the war.The methods that Japanese public libraries use in reader service have a lot of distinctive qualities , worth our drawing lessons from , so this text studies the reader service of Japanese public library synthetically through the ways of document general survey, making investigations , such methods as summing up , comparative analysis , counting etc. I hope that we can take some advanced experience and methods from the reader service of Japanese public library.The paper comprises four parts mainly:First, summary of Japanese public library. Every characteristic such as the service for disabled person, service for children, multi-culture service and commercial affair support etc is worth our learning.Fourth, the enlightenments which given by Japanese public library reader service. The author think that Chinese public library should improve their reader service through accelerating the legislative process of the library, ensuring reader's rights and interests; strengthening the service consciousness, really implementing the aim that" first of reader , service is above everything else "; enlarging the house construction of the library; paying attention to collecting reader's suggestion of feedback, understanding reader's information; enhancing the training of professional ethics and professional skill in library and teaching the readers.The economic situation of China has changed enormously nowadays, hardware facilities of the library are renewing and perfecting constantly, the service consciousness and service enthusiasm of librarians are running high too, we believe that Chinese public library will become more prosperous through the efforts of all.
