The Urban Underground Pipelines are an important part of a city's infrastructure, as well as part of the physical services for city's survival and development, which is called the lifeline of city. With the construction and development of cities, the quantities of underground pipelines are increasing gradually. However, there exists many problems in traditional pipeline management; it can no longer satisfy the meet from management sector. As GIS technology is developing and maturing, its application on management of underground pipeline information will describe the distribution of the urban underground pipeline scientifically and accurately and provide aided decision support for urban planning and construction, which plays a significant role in improving the management level of urban underground pipeline information and ensures the safety of city's lifeline.Combined with the demands of urban pipeline management, the management information system for urban underground pipeline is designed and developed in Visual C sharp development platform based on the redevelopment component ArcGIS Engine, using C/S development mode and ComGIS technology. It realizes scientific and unified management for a variety of pipelines, and also provides foundation for the Digital City . The main achievements are as follows:(1)According to the characteristics of underground pipelines, the pipeline data standard is researched and formulated, the data structure and the database are designed, then the integrated storage for spatial and attribute information of pipeline is realized based on spatial data engine ArcSDE and large relational database Oracle.(2) Combined with the characteristics of pipeline data structure, the spatial analysis methods are studied. The mapping of pipeline horizontal and vertical sections is realized based on linear interpolation method, and the distribution of underground pipelines is displayed intuitively using graphics information, which serves for the urban construction; the collision detection of underground pipelines is implemented combining with the state standards, and it helps determining the reasonableness of the pipelines'location; the shortest path and pipe burst analysis are realized based on pipeline network, in order to prevent and reduce pipeline disaster losses.(3)The aided designing which realizes the modification and confirmation of new pipeline project, and boosts up intuitiveness and accuracy of pipeline planning, is offered aiming at the planning of pipelines; the spatial contrast between planning graphics and measured graphics which after the pipeline construction is provided, and this affords basis for estimating the rationality of the pipeline construction and supplies convenience for planning and approval of pipeline.(4)Version management and dynamic update of pipeline data are researched, then the scope level and feature level update of the pipeline data are achieved. Different data versions are built for old and new data, and historical data can be viewed easily, thus rational storage of current and historical pipe data is realized.
