With the progressive advancement of city informatization, the research and realization of UGIS (Urban Geographic Information System) have become even more important in accelerating urban informatization. As an organic part of UGIS, urban pipeline network information management system is playing a significant role in improving the integrative management, accelerating the constructing and developing steps of UGIS.Combining with the characteristics and demands of urban pipeline network system, this thesis analyzes the construction method of urban pipeline network information management system on the basis of ArcGIS Engine, and researches the key technologies and realization method in constructing the system. Furthermore, aiming at the actuality of urban pipeline network information management and problems in system construction, this thesis gives the solution of urban pipeline network information management system on the basis of ArcGIS Engine, and develops the system by using the technologies of ComGIS(ArcGIS Engine), spatial database engine(ArcSDE), Relational Database(SQL Server 2000), and the visual basic.net programming language.The main contents of the thesis are as follows:I. Analyzing the key technologies, system design and realization of urban pipeline network information management system.II. Studying and analyzing the data structure of pipeline network, organizing pipeline data by the utilization of network model of ArcGIS Geodatabase and storing the graphic and attribute information as a whole.III. Expatiating on the analytic functions of urban pipeline information management system. The thesis has researched the data structure of creating cross section graphs and vertical section graphs, and methods of calculating the section data. The section graphs fit for people's reading habit. Pipelines can be distinguished and found easily and intuitively from the map. The thesis has also researched into network analytic functions (including connectedness analysis, flow analysis, tube burst analysis) of pipeline networks, realized the related analytic functions by programming, which make the examination of pipeline connection and malfunction segments convenient. The thesis has also analyzed the 3D visualization methods of pipeline networks. Take example for the valves, the thesis has realized 3D modeling and 3D rendering of pipeline networks and the related establishment.
