With the integrated level of Very Large Scale Integrated Circuites (VLSI) continues to increase, chip area and power consumption become important issues of the VLSI circuit. Multi-valued logic circuits have srong signal carrying capacity to the system transfer data multiplied in one clock cycle, which offer a valid solution for the problems brought by increasing area and interconnect. Meanwhile, the adiabatic circuits use energy recovery principle can reduce the power consumption greatly. So, by studying the working principle and characteristics of multi-valued circuits and adiabatic circuits, the design scheme of multi-valued adiabatic circuits are proposed in this paper by using switch-signal theory (SST), which realizing high information density and low power consumption for the circuits. The main contents of this paper are shown as follows:1,Research on switch-signal theory and clocked adiabatic circuits: Study on switch-signal theory in-depth, analyzing clocked adiabatic circuits based on switch-signal theory to further guide the design of multi-valued adiabatic circuits.2,Design of Ternary Clocked Transmission Gate Adiabatic Logic (TCTGAL) circuit based on SST: Taking SST as guidance, the design scheme of TCTGAL circuit is proposed by using single power-clock. The ternary adiabatic literal operation circuits and 3-1 multiplexer were derived, and the ternary adiabatic T-operation circuit and counter were realized further.3,Design of Quatenary Clocked Transmission Gate Adiabatic Logic (QCTGAL) circuit based on SST: According to control technology of multi-threshold MOS, the switch-level design scheme of QCTGAL circuit is proposed. Then the quatenary adiabatic logic gate circuits and quaternary adiabatic dynamic D flip-flop were designed.4,Design of Eight-valued Clocked Transmission Gate Adiabatic Logic (ECTGAL) circuit based on SST: By analyzing the working principle and structure of CTGAL circuit and QCTGAL circuit, the design scheme of 2-4 mixed-valued/eight-valued ECTGAL circuit based on mixed-valued coding is proposed. Then 2-4 mixed-valued/eight-valued up-down counter were realized further.The computer simulation results indicate that the designed circuits have correct function, and compared to that of same function circuits based on traditional CMOS circuits, the proposed circuits have remarkable low power characteristics.
