College Students' Media Literacy Education In Information Era

Science and technology, especially the information techniques, develops so quickly in the 21st century and it influences people's life in many ways, no matter the way of study or work and concepts of life. Nowadays, no one can escape from media and information. The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn. All scholars and governments around the world have realized the importance and necessity of having media literacy education and many of them have taken measures to make it happen. In China, university students are special groups, they grow up with the developments of media and they reach a relatively high level in knowledge and thinking mode. It is suitable to begin media literacy education among them.To university students, media seems like an invisible hand, having great influence on students. As a result, university students need to learn how to access, analyze, participate and use media and its information, which is the content of university students' media literacy education.This article includes four parts:the first part introduces the development of media literacy education, gives definitions of some key concept; the second part explain the necessity of carrying university students' media literacy education; the third part explain the main points of university students' media literacy education; the forth part emphasize the role of university in media literacy education.
