College students live in an information age which has rapid development of technology and increasingly rich media. The media information is easy to get and very rich, so college students regard the media as a classroom outside campus to aware and understand the world. However, relatively high speed with the media, the level and ability to understand media and process information of college students are generally low. A lot of thought-provoking issues appear, while students using media in the complicated media environment. Media literacy education of college students is presented in this case. It is designed to help students learn to recognize media, question media, criticize media and use media effectively for self-development, and become mature, rational and active.Previous research emphasis how to help college students in the information age form "immunity" to prevent themselves getting lost, but with little regard to the impact of college students to media as the main body with dynamic character. This paper argues that there is symbiotic effect between college students and media:on the one hand, with the improvement of media literacy of students, the media need to provide a higher level of media products to meet the needs of college students audience, and as communicators in the communication process college students will reduce the inappropriate behavior, which will reduce the adverse information, and gradually the media environment will achieve the purification and balance. The other hand, the clean and balanced media environment will also bring a good learning and development environment to the college students.This article studied from the perspective above, it aims to consider the relationship between college students and the media to be relevant and progressive. The paper identified the following problems through research:①Media literacy of college students today is at a low level of spontaneity;②The main factors influencing media literacy of college students are including media environment, school education, family education, society and their personal experience, these factors interact, and influence students media literacy together;③We should consider improving students media knowledge level, awareness of media criticism, media ethics and communication skills, the ability of effective use of media to develop as the basic elements of media literacy education of college students;④Media literacy education of college students likes a systematic project, government, media, universities, social, family and the students themselves are all the essential education subjects.
