Media literacy education, which sprung up in Western countries such as Britain and the U.S.A, aims at cultivating the media subjects', especially the young people's media literacy, by the means of helping them to achieve both self-perfection and social ability, when they are be able to critically analyze and use the media. Media literacy education in China is still in the initiation and preparation phase, when becoming more mature in western countries.Presently, the globalization, informationalization, and media diversification trends are becoming evident, with the time entering the Global Information Era, as well as the mutual influence, infiltration and integration among the world's politics, economy, culture and ideology. College students, who are in the center of the massive explosion of information, are facing all kinds of bad, negative impact, when absorbing new and useful knowledge to develop themselves. In such a information age, the traditional literacy has been far from being able to meet the demands of the present time; however, the ability of access to, interpretation, screening and judging media information has become basic survival and life skills for modern citizens,In view of this situation, this paper, based on the survey of Wuhan colleges students' media literacy education, makes an effort to reflect contemporary Chinese college student's media literacy status quo, so as to offer some localization reference to the topic of media literacy education. On the basis of the survey, the present paper presents a detailed analysis and assessment of the college students' media literary status quo, and notes the significance and necessity of the professional media literacy education. The survey was conducted from four perspectives: the college students' media consumption behavior, their comprehension, their critical reasoning, and their participation in the transmission of the media. The survey shows that, firstly, the college students' media consumption behavior lack rational guidance, which results in some blindness; secondly, the college students have a basic command of the knowledge of media and the contents, but are weak in resisting the negative information; thirdly, students emphasize too much on the entire freedom and independence of media when they assess the media; and lastly, they are still not active enough in the participation in the transmission of the media. The results demonstrate that college student's media literacy knowledge and ability is not satisfactory; therefore, it is of great realistic significance to develop college students' media literacy education in our country. To conclude, this paper hold that it is very necessary to strengthen college students' media literacy education.
