With the sustainable development of Chinese economy and the rapid process of urbanization, urban transportation will be faced with enormous challenges on staff travel and logistics. How to retrieve the best route from the database of the complex traffic information quickly and effectively is a both important and practical significance research topic. Traditional information retrieval method (keyword-based) is hard to meet the user's demand accurately, which is mainly reason that existing poor-precision in retrieval system. The purpose of Ontology Axiom Reasoning and Application in Urban Transportation is to completely resolve the question of choosing the best route from the information database, which expression and organization from the level of base on keywords to the knowledge-based and semantic-based. In recent years, the study on ontology is very active. Ontology technology has been widely used in many fields but there is a few works in urban transportation.The research of this thesis will focus on the key technologies of the reasoning and query approach for urban transportation based on ontology by Jena, this paper studied the reasoning technology base on User-defined systematically. On the basis of carefully studying on the single structure database such as Oracle,SQLServer, The paper presents a new method for information retrieval based on ontology reasoning. The urban transportation ontology is created and stored in a relational database by abstracting and analyzing the traffic information. The potential relative semantic results are obtained by achieving the function of semantic query and path search in the platform of Jena, which applying the reasoning rules. At the same time, the semantic reasoning mechanism based on Jena and the issues involved were analyzed comparatively and the algorithm is described in detail. At last, this thesis introduces the design and implementation of the prototype in detail. The implementation of the prototype validates that the application of ontology reasoning in urban transportation provides an effective method to enhance precision and recall rate of information retrieval.
