Since 1990s, with the development of science and technology and the approaching of information globalization, multi-media and web-based education technology has permeated into people's daily life and study. The new technology has transformed our learning modes and strategies, our teaching structures and concept. However for a long time, the traditional learning and teaching approaches are centered on the knowledge impartation. As a result of which what the students have learned do not fit in the society and cannot meet the requirements of the society and hence the students'incentive of leaning is not strong. Besides the learned knowledge of the students is fragmental. Thus this mode of teaching and learning is not conducive to the all-around development of the students. Therefore in the thesis the author, based upon the modern teaching concept and modern education technology, develops her own web-based problem solving teaching and learning mode. Different form the traditional one, which is a commune teaching method, the mode is student-centered which encourages the students to take initiatives in finding the problems and solving the problems. By doing this the students construct their own knowledge framework. This learning pattern can make their knowledge and skills permanent. Therefore it has significance in setting up information technology-assisted PBL teaching mode. On the basis of extensive reading and study on the related field, and her own data elicited from her own working experience in Teacher's college, the author discuss several aspects in the thesis: Chapter One the author presents her own reasons for choosing the topic and puts forward the modern technology-based problem-solving learning pattern. Chapter Two she discusses the concept and characteristics of information technology and analyzes its impact on the educational reform. Chapter Three she carries out an in-depth study on the definition, features and learning goal of information technology-aided PBL model and furthermore introduces it into setting up the classroom PBL model and points out its advantages. Chapter four serves as the core of the thesis. The author analyzes the design principles of the web-based PBL model and its functional environments. She then applies it into the teaching design of photography elementals. Chapter five function as conclusion and points out the problems confronted in the present study and those which need to be solved in the future.
