| Through the "double reduction" policy, primary and secondary school students are granted more time and energy to engage in various cultural activities, thus becoming the foundation of public cultural endeavors. No criteria have yet been established to evaluate if public libraries′ reading services satisfy the reading requirements of primary and secondary school students, meet their expectations, and contribute to their life growth. The purpose of this study is to develop evaluation criteria for public library reading services from the perspective of perceptions of primary and secondary student groups, and to provide references for public libraries to optimize reading services for primary and secondary students. The author, through a comprehensive analysis of pertinent literature both domestically and internationally, synthesizes and utilizes the current library service assessment system, exhaustively employs Thomas′ five elements, graded reading and other related theories, and unites the features of the primary and secondary student cohorts to make a thorough assessment, and assess the components of reading services for primary and secondary students in public libraries, establishes evaluation indexes, and constructs a complete set of evaluation index system, which is divided into 4 primary and13 secondary indexes according to the attribute level.A comprehensive evaluation index system, divided into 4 primary and 13 secondary indicators by attribute level, has been created to objectively assess the quality of reading services for primary and secondary indicators by inviting specialists from related fields to analyze their significance in detail and to make comparisons, and then employing hierarchical analysis to calculate the subjective weights of primary and secondary indicators. The author, once more, distributed questionnaires to primary and secondary school students to empirically investigate the evaluation system of reading services for these students in public libraries.Establishing the objective weights of the index system through entropy weighting, hierarchical analysis, and the Likert scale method were employed to determine the final weights of all indices.Subsequently, the service quality was determined from the scores.Public libraries′;reading services for primary and secondary school students achieved an overall score of 66.41,a passing level, yet there is still much room for improvement in the future. We suggest ways to maximize reading resources and atmosphere, personnel, content, and readership in public libraries,as well as to vigilantly monitor the influence of reading services and consider the long-term effect of reading services for primary and secondary school students to better satisfy their reading requirements. |
