Students have always seen the public library as the “secondlearning class”. As digital publishing technology advances, more digitalresources at the public library are available, if we could use effectivelythose resources, it would be a very good addition learning tools forstudents. This study has been based on QingPu Library for its digitalresources service for middle and primary school students, the keyquestions raised are: What kind of efforts has QingPu library been donefor students to use its digital services? How effective are those efforts?And how to improve them?This research has been based on the case study method, theauthor has investigated the status of digital resources at QingPu library,about the setups, the usage frequency, the strategy of advertisement.The research showed that the investment in digital resources at QingPulibrary is huge, and the digital content is rather abundant, but the usagehas not been great. There are digital resources for middle and primaryschool students, but they are not properly indicated, so the usage isrelatively low. The ways to make public awareness of those resourcesare: training, special activities, and on site advertisement. For middleand primary school students, QingPu library has used the trainingmethod, but the beneficiaries are rather limited, the efforts made arenot efficient. According to the investigation through questionnaires, thestudents knows how to use the digital resources, and also familiar withthe traditional paper book services at QingPu library, but lackawareness about the digital resources availability at QingPu library, solittle applications have been made for using those digital resources, theusage has been low. However the students are very interested in thosedigital resources, and the willingness to use those digital resources is rather strong.This research has, for the first time, revealed the poor public librarydigital service effectiveness, specially for the middle and primary schoolstudents this particular group. This study will be served as an importantreference for improving services to other digital resources user groups atQingPu library. As the public libraries in other cities are in the similarsituation as QingPu library on the digital resources services, they haveput more emphasizes on building those resources, but very little hasbeen done on public awareness, so this study will help all the publiclibraries throughout the country to learn from QingPu library’s case toimprove their digital services effectiveness, specially to middle andprimary school students.
