As a common psychological disorder, social anxiety is more common among college students. It is different from introverted personality characteristics and "lazy social" communication preference, when anxiety is aggravated or accompanied by other mental diseases,or lead to mobile phone addiction, depression and suicidal ideation and other extreme deviation problems appear,is a threat to students’ physical and mental health development. At present, although the countermeasures in the psychological field of colleges and universities are constantly improved,it is still difficult to meet the increasingly complex psychological needs of freshmen in the transition stage of physical and mental environment. In this paper, the Communication Anxiety Scale(IAS)was used to investigate 288 freshmen in G College,X University,Guangzhou. It was found that 82 freshmen were troubled by "moderate" or above degree of social anxiety.Through semi-structured interview and activity participation intention,8 freshmen with high degree of social anxiety were selected for group work intervention.Through horizontal research and longitudinal investigation, this activity investigated the causes of group members’ social anxiety.Under the guidance of cognitive behavioral theory and mindfulness theory, combined with social skill training and professional methods such as cognitive therapy, mindfulness therapy and exposure therapy,a total of 6 group intervention activities were carried out to improve the newly born social anxiety. It is found that the lack of communication skills and expression ability, the bias of self-cognition,the influence of past negative experiences and the limited social support network lead to the emergence of freshmen social anxiety.Based on this, this paper puts forward countermeasures and suggestions to alleviate college students’ social anxiety from multiple dimensions such as individual, family, school and society, and sorts out the causes of social anxiety and the practical path for group work to intervene in college freshmen’s psychological problems. The results show that group work has a certain effect on improving college students’ social anxiety.By changing irrational cognition, constructing positive self and building support network, group members can reduce social anxiety. The innovation of this study lies in the application of mindfulness and its related therapies in the field of social anxiety.By combining cognitive and behavioral concepts with skill training, anxiety can be dealt with and covered more scientifically and effectively. In addition,by combining social work with ideological and political resources of colleges and universities, this study promoted the establishment of a "psychological workstation" in College G of the university, proposed a horizontal service system of "psychological commissator + counselor + social work professional teachers + psychological counseling teachers" and a longitudinal intervention mechanism of "cognition + mindfulness + skills",and constructed a service path of "screening-intervention-tracking".In order to broaden the countermeasures of the school’s student education management.
