Middle school education pays attention to the accumulation and application of basic knowledge. The university education is to cultivate the comprehensive quality of students. The difference of the training mode leads to the difference of teaching mode and management style. After entering university, freshmen should adapt to the change of teaching mode and management style. The adaptation of learning has become an urgent problem to be solved. Statistics show that college freshmen’s adaptation of learning is not an individual phenomenon and a part of them have this situation. Freshmen’s learning status will not only affect the quality of learning in school, and will also have an impact on their future life and work. For the college students’ learning adaptability problem, the ways of resolution mainly used in domestic universities include class management by class teacher and counselor, freshman orientation, psychological guidance by college psychological counseling center and guidance for freshmen by undergraduate tutor. Although these methods have achieved some success, the students are passive to accept the guidance. It did not give full play to their initiative and meet the needs of students as individuals. In this paper, the author attempts to apply the methods and techniques of social work into the study of freshmen’ learning adaptability problem. Through the methods of questionnaires and interviews, it is understood that there are five points in the freshmen’ learning adaptability problem. First, the students do not have sufficient understanding of the characteristics in learning features. Their learning attitudes are not correct. Second, they lack of the learning independence and practical abilities. Third, they cannot keep up with the progress of teaching style and also cannot adapt to the change of teaching environment and management style. Fourth, they are sensitive to the interpersonal relationship and feared to handling it. Fifth, they have no clear learning goals and plans. This will lead that they can’t reasonable arrange the remaining time. The causes of these problems are various. There are not only subjective aspects due to the change of the concept, but also objective aspects by the changes in teaching style, teaching environment and management style. In view of these problems, the author tries to use the case social work and the method of the group to carry on the intervention to the freshmen. In the case of the service, the author analyzes the reasons for the learning adaptability problem of the service object, and then establishes different service scenarios separately. The author introduces the professional teachers and school funding policies to the first service object. For the second service object, the author communicates with his mother after visiting his dorm, and then introduces a fellow-townsman whose performance is excellent. In the group service, the author designed six group activities. In the assessment of the case and group activities, the service objects and the members of groups have learned that learning is not easy in the university. They need more time to foster correct learning attitude. Although the learning goals and plans are not the same in details for each person, but all of them have a preliminary goal and plan. They recognize that there contain more content and have faster speed during university class. They should adapt to the rhythm of the teacher in the class. Research shows that it is possible and effective to help the university freshmen adapting to the university study by using social work methods. It provides reference for the universities to solve the adaptation problem of university freshmen.
