A Report On The Translation Of An Excerpt From Chapter Ten Of Conflicting Humanities

The material of translation practice is selected from Chapter 10,"Versions of Binationalism in Said and Buber" of Conflicting Humanities,a collection of essays edited by Rosi Braidotti and Paul Gilroy.This chapter written by Judith Butler mainly discusses views on binational ism in Edward W.Said and Martin Buber and the way torealize it.Based on the translation practice,the author of the translation report finishes the report that consists of four parts.The first part is the description of the translation task,introducing the background of the source and the author of the translation material and the significance of this report.The second part is the the description of the translation process,which mainly includes the preparation for translation,difficulties encountered in the process and post-translation proofreading and finalizing.The third part is the analysis of translation cases.Under the guidance of skopos theory,the author of the translation report follows the skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule,applying some translation skills such as lexical conversion,extension of meaning and adjustment of sentence order and so on.The author of the translation report selects and analyzes representative cases from the three aspects of vocabulary,syntax and discourse.The last part is the summary of the translation practice,which chiefly includes reflection and conclusion from this experience.Through this translation practice,the author of the translation report realizes that the humanistic thought of Said and Buber has far-reaching significance under the complex historical and political background of Palestine and Israel.The translation of this chapter can make more readers know the development of binationalism and foreign humanistic thought.In the process of translating such texts related to politics and philosophy,the author of the translation report accumulates experience and recognizes some shortcomings.In the future,the author of the translation report will do more translation practice in this field to improve the ability of translation.
