Rosi Braidotti and Paul Gilroy have co-authored a collection of essays, which is Conflicting Humanities. This translation practice material stems from the sixth chapter, namely,“The Political Enlightenment: A View from the South”.The author of this chapter,Akeel Bilgrami, follows Edward W.Said's humanistic criticism, that is,the distortion of people's self-knowledge in the East(or South)is caused by the imposed cognition of western European colonists and its imitation from their masters. This translation practice report can arouse people to think about how to deal with the relationship between freedom and equality and how to choose between natural resources and economic interests in alienated society to some extent. This translation report is composed of four parts. In the description of the translation task, the author explains the source of the materials, briefly introduces Akeel Bilgrami and his work “The Political Enlightenment: A View from the South”,and expounds the significance of the selected topic. In the summary of the translation process, the author expounds the preparatory work before translation, the difficulties encountered in the process of revising the first draft,as well as the review, embellishment and finalization; The translation case analysis part is an important part of this translation practice report. The author analyzes the translation cases from three levels: vocabulary, syntax and text. The vocabulary level is branched into term translation, part of speech conversion, word meaning determination and amplification;the syntax level is divided into attribute clause translation, passive sentence translation, adverbial clause translation,“box type” clause translation;the text level falls into cohesion and coherence. Finally,in the summary of translation practice, the author summarizes the shortcomings and aspects to be improved.Through this translation practice, the author has gained practical experience in translation on philosophical text.At the same time, the author is also aware of some shortcomings.First of all,the author can not quickly and accurately determine the meanings of English words in a specific context;secondly, translation theories have not been fully adopted during sentences translating;finally, the author's language expression ability also needs to be improved. In the future, the author will make greater efforts to study translation theories and translation skills, apply them to the future translation practice, and strive to improve the language expression ability and translation skills.
