Conflicting Humanities is the conference proceeding of Rosie Braidotti and Paul Gilroy, and this translation material is selected from the Chapter II "A boundless world?" edited by Jayatri Chakravolti Spivak, which mainly introduces the relationship between a borderless world and social justice.Spivak explained the public relationship between the improvement of public awareness and the education, and stressed the importance and necessity of humanities' intellectuals in national politics and other aspects. She expressed the views on the attitude and responsibility of the humanities with the hope of obtaining education for the subaltern and changing faith-based gender oppression. The translator hopes to make readers understand the current situation of the development of the humanities in western countries, and arouse their concern, attention and reflection on the humanities' research in China through the translation of this chapter, which aims to make some valuable academic contribution to the follow-up research of scholars and translation enthusiasts in the field of the humanities and posthumanism. In the pre-translation stage of this translation practice, the translator makes a full analysis of the linguistic features and textual nature of the source text through a great deal of preparatory work on the thorough understanding of the source text's thoughts and philosophical terms. In the process of translating, the translator mainly adopts the method of literal translation and free translation on the basis of faithfully conveying the content of the source text, and selects the aided translation tools which are consistent with this source text. After referring to a large number of parallel texts on humanities construction and philosophical translation, the translator analyzes and explains the difficulties encountered during the process of translation and their coping strategies combined with translation examples in this translation on lexical, syntactic and textual aspects. In the post-translation stage, the translator makes many checks, polishes and modifications by reading of the translation to avoid the problems of obscurity, translation of cavity and logic confusion,so as to make the expression faithful, smooth, intelligible and readable. Finally, the translator makes a summary of this translation practice and obtains a deeper understanding of the connotation of the translation theory and essence of translation practice, which accumulates valuable experience for future translation practice.
