A Report On E-C Translation Of Chapter 25 Of A New Companion To Digital Humanities

The thesis is a report on the translation of Chapter 25 of A New Companion to Digital Humanities.Chapter 25 entitled “Marking Texts of Many Dimensions” is about text markup,which discusses in detail what the “text” is,the necessity for marking texts,and how to mark texts with digital methods in the field of autopoietic system,and a proposed six-dimensional model for reference.The source text is an academic article with high practicability and value.And the translation of such texts can publicize academic ideas of different nations and promote the exchange and integration of global culture and knowledge.To achieve this goal,the translator takes Skopos Theory as the theoretical guide for this translation practice,and adopts a variety of translation methods like amplification,combination,division and restructuring to translate the source text faithfully and accurately.In this report,the translator first describes the background and significance of the translation project,and gives a brief introduction to the main contents and the authors about the source text.Then the translator introduces the whole translation procedures,including the pre-translation preparation,the process of translation and the post-translation correction.Besides,the translator also makes the typical cases studies of translation focuses and difficulties in the process,including the translation of technical terms,unusual meanings of common words,and dealings of complex sentences and coherence of the target text.The translator finally hopes that this translation practice can help the target readers keep informed of the cutting edge of digital humanities,and provide reference materials for future translation practices concerned with digital humanities.
