This material of translation practice is selected from Chapter 5,“ Not Yet Humanism or the Non-Jewish Jew Becomes the Non-Humanistic Humanist ” of Conflicting Humanities,a collection of essays edited by Rosi Braidotti and Paul Gilroy. This chapter, contributed by Paul Gilroy, deals with some of Edward W.Said's views on decolonization and anti-racial hierarchies,as well as the realization of national liberation and political self-determination.The material is of good help for more people to understand orientalism and post-human ideological trend, and to a certain extent, and it provides a new perspective new thinking for relevant domestic researchers. The translation practice report is divided into four parts, which are translation task description, translation process review, case study, and conclusion respectively. The third part is the main body of this report. From the four aspects of vocabulary, syntax, rhetoric and discourse, the translator makes a detailed analysis and summary combining specific analysis of selected cases. At the lexical level, the translator uses the translation techniques of amplification, conversion and extension to solve the vocabulary difficulties in the translation of proper nouns, terminology and some common words. At the syntactic level, for passive sentences, inanimate subjects, appositive clauses and attributive clauses, the translator adopts the translation skills of voice conversion, inversion and division. At the rhetorical level, the translation strategy of domestication is used to the figurative rhetoric in the original text.At the level of discourse, the translator, from the perspective of cohesion and coherence, adopts two means of reference and cohesion to enhance the readability of the translation.Through this translation practice, the translator has enhanced her understandingof Said's thoughts and humanism, and stimulated her enthusiasm for translation.Meanwhile, the translator is also aware of her shortcomings, such as inadequate acquisition of translation theories and inflexible use of translation skills. In the future, the translator will continue to learn translation theories, further improve her information retrieval ability, and strengthen mother tongue learning,so as to become a superb translator.
