Commentary plays a crucial role in sightseeing by enabling visitors to obtain relevant facts about the scenic spot and enriching their touring experience.Today,most scenic spots in China have begun to provide commentary services.By introducing the background,history and folk knowledge,tourist guides spread local culture to visitors.Then with the implementation of the opening-up policy,China attracts a large number of foreign tourists who long to understand Chinese folk culture during the visit.The demand for multilingual commentaries arises.But those commentaries,without flexible translation strategies according to the specific situation,often lead to the rigidity and mistakes in understanding,adversely affecting the foreign tourists’ impression for the scenic spots.Against this backdrop,guided by Skopos Theory and practical cases,this report is to summarize the problems encountered by the author in the project of translating Chinese to English for the scenic spots in Yangliuqing ancient town,and to summarize methods,hoping to provide cases and inspirations for translators and to improve translator’s ability.The translation practice report is divided into five chapters.The first chapter mainly discusses the background,targets and significance of the translation project.Chapter two describes the translation process,including the preparation for translation,the translating process and the matters after translation.Chapter three introduces Skopos Theory in tourist translation: first of all,it explains the development of the theory,then expounds the rules of skopos,coherence and fidelity in tourist translation.The fourth chapter is a case study where the author analyzes the cases from the aspects of both lexical and syntax.The lexical part includes the translation of cultural terms and four-character Chinese,and the syntax part explains the combination,omission and information reorganization in the practice.Chapter five is a summary of the translation practice including the author’s experience and deficiencies.
