The Government Work Report released by the State Council in 2016 proposed to vigorously promote the spirit of craftsmanship, which is of great significance to the development of all walks of life, and is the core spirit of the heritage and development of secondary schools.Based on the analysis of relevant research results, this paper proposes the characteristics of professional craftsmanship in mapping and geographic information, which mainly include: Know what we are doing and seek truth from facts;Work hard and endure hardship;work in solidarity and strive for excellence;love our work and obey the law.Students of mapping and geographic information majors in secondary schools were selected as research subjects, and research methods such as questionnaire survey method and literature method were used to carry out the study.A survey of secondary school mapping and geographic information students found that there are four aspects of problems in the cultivation of students’ craftsmanship, which mainly include: Students’ personal understanding of the meaning of craftsmanship is not thorough enough, their practice of craftsmanship is not strong enough and their professional recognition is not high;teachers do not attach enough importance to the cultivation of craftsmanship and their role model is not strong;the school lacks activities related to craftsmanship and professional equipment for practical training is not perfect;parents’ traditional professional outlook and family atmosphere and parenting style need to be improved. In addition, the aim is to expand the methods and content of the cultivation of craftsmanship in secondary schools in order to fully understand the perception of front-line work in surveying and mapping with regard to craftsmanship and the ability of graduates to do the work they are doing.Interviews revealed that there is a shortage of professionals in frontline surveying and mapping work and a poor transferability of skills among graduates in companies.Firstly,to promote students’ systematic understanding of craftsmanship, cultivate their interest in learning, improve their professional identity and,on this basis, improve their hands-on practical skills and practice craftsmanship;secondly,to raise teachers’ awareness of the cultivation of craftsmanship, integrate craftsmanship into the teaching of professional courses, attach importance to the transfer of students’ skills and give full play to their role as role models;thirdly,to create a cultural atmosphere on campus and improve the teaching environment and conditions;fourthly,to change parents’ traditional career concepts, create a good family atmosphere and enhance home-school cooperation. In order to better promote the integration of teaching and learning of mapping and geographic information courses in secondary schools with craftsmanship, and to confirm the feasibility of integrating craftsmanship into the teaching of professional courses. The thematic map production in the Geographic Information System(Arc GIS)software application and the standard level survey in the surveying course, which are core courses in this field, were chosen as teaching examples. The process and ways of cultivating craftsmanship in the teaching and learning process of mapping and geographic information courses at secondary level are specified in the teaching case.It is expected that the opinions provided in this paper will be informative for the development of professional education and can help secondary surveying and mapping geographic information majors to cultivate professionals with excellent qualities of craftsmanship.
