A Study On Media Presentation Of The Discourse Of People's Daily On The 100th Anniversary Of The Founding Of The Communist Party

The year 2021 marks the 100 th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China(CPC),as well as the start of the 14 th Five-Year Plan and the advancement towards building a comprehensive socialist modern power.Standing at the historical crossroads of the "two hundred years" goal,People's Daily,as the most authoritative media discourse platform in China,how does its discourse present the important issue of the "100th anniversary of the founding of the Party";how does it reproduce the Party's 100-year development history,struggles and achievements and shape the Party's image;does it reflect the mainstream as the most authoritative media discourse platform in China,how the discourse of People's Daily presents the important issue of "100th anniversary of the founding of the Party";how to reproduce the development history and achievements of the Party and shape the image of the Party;whether it reflects the new features of the discourse of the mainstream media on the anniversary of the founding of the Party,etc.are important issues worth exploring.This paper focuses on these theoretical and practical issues,hoping to provide ideas and methodological reference for the construction of the discourse of major historical topics in mainstream media in the new era on the basis of summarizing experience.Based on Fairclough's three-dimensional analysis model,this paper explores the media presentation of the discourse on the 100 th anniversary of the founding of the People's Daily from three directions: text,discourse practice and social practice.First,371 reports on the 100 th anniversary of the founding of the Party in People's Daily in 2021 are taken as a sample,and their categories are constructed and quantitatively analyzed in terms of both textual content and form.Through data mining on the posture,themes,sources and tendencies of the reports,we found that the discourse on the 100 th anniversary of the founding of the Party in People's Daily showed that"the front page is dominated by the main news page","official sources are dominant",and "the Party's history and achievements are the core themes".History and achievements as the core theme" and so on.This is the result of the operation of power in the discourse,which reflects the leading power of the Party's discourse in the ideological field.Secondly,the discourse of the 100 th anniversary of the founding of the Party in People's Daily is analyzed from the dimension of discourse practice,drawing on Fairclough's argument that discourse practice "helps to recreate society itself(social identity,social relations,knowledge and belief system),and explores how discourse constructs the Party's subject identity and its knowledge community.The study finds that the discourse of the 100 th anniversary of the founding of the Party in the People's Daily reproduces the century-long image change of the Communist Party of China,with "revolutionary-builder-reformer-national rejuvenator" as the chronological clue,and the identity of the Party's main role has been reconstructed by the discourse,presenting many new features of the times;the discourse also constructs the identity of the Party in terms of historical trajectory,achievements and contributions,current practice,practical feedback,and experience.The discourse also constructs six major knowledge communities of the Communist Party,including historical trajectory,achievements and contributions,current practices,practical feedback,and experience assessment,with"achievements and contributions of the Party" as the core topic and other five sub-topics forming a net-like linkage,presenting a comprehensive and three-dimensional history of the Party's political discourse in terms of its connotations and extensions.Finally,the relationship between the Party's discourse practice and social practice is explored from a macro perspective,and the social motives behind the construction of the discourse are analyzed.The 100 th anniversary discourse of the People's Daily carries the historical memory of the Party,strengthens the Party's leading core position,enhances people's enthusiasm to participate in social practices and achieves wider social mobilization,but there is still room for optimization.In the new era,we should strengthen the overlapping interaction between the Party's discourse and the people's discourse;make good use of historical resources to optimize the narrative structure,and expand the dissemination platform of the discourse.
