Research On The Change Of "War Discourse" In People's Daily News Report

The evolution of discourse use is one of the important manifestations of social and cultural changes.Especially in news reports,the presentation of discourse is often deeply influenced by the social environment and social structure of the media,and can reflect the tradition and inheritance of social development to a large extent.In the 20 th century,the whole world was almost under the background of turbulence and war.In the same period,Chinese society always took "national independence" and "national self-improvement" as the task of the times,and "war" almost became the core background of social life at that time.Therefore,this tendency will inevitably affect the discourse generation of the mainstream media.People's Daily is deeply influenced by this background and tradition,so his news report discourse also embodies a strong "war" style.Now that we are in a non-war era,"peace" and "development" have become the new themes of the times.However,there is still a figure of "war discourse" in all kinds of media reports,and this discourse mode is gradually separated from its original meaning in the continuation and development,and is constantly integrated with the current reporting theme.For example,in the field of government work,the media often describe "poverty alleviation","anti-corruption" and "environmental protection" as "battles","defensive wars" and "protracted wars";in the field of medical and health care,the media will refer to epidemics as "invaders" and "enemies",and medical personnel as "soldiers in white".In the field of sports,the media are used to using words such as "repel" and "triumphant return" to describe the competitive process and results of athletes on both sides;in addition,words such as "trade war","currency war" and "marriage defense war" often appear in media reports.People's Daily,as one of the most important official media born under the background of the founding of New China,it is of more typical significance to examine the changes of "war discourse" in its news reports and the social and historical motivation behind the changes.Therefore,this paper will take the theory of discourse analysis as the basic framework,take the news reports of "People's Daily" from October 1,1949 to December31,2020 as the research object,and extract some hot words of "war discourse".Through the analysis of its text features,discourse practice and social practice,this paper summarizes the changing law of "war discourse" in the news report of "People's Daily" and the social and historical motivation behind it.Finally,it analyzes the characteristics of the times and the problems worthy of reflection on the evolution of this kind of discourse patterns.This article is developed in the following sections.The introduction part first defines the core concept of "war discourse".It also gives an account of the context of the study,discusses the current state of discourse analysis theory.It also introduces the three research methods involved in this paper.The first chapter is the overall overview of the full text of the research sample and the specific division of the research stage.By the way of constructing weekly sampling,this paper takes 14-day newspaper samples from the annual newspapers of "People's Daily" in 2020,selects 33 hot words of "war discourse",and then searches them in the electronic database of "People's Daily" for the whole year,and extracts new hot words from the retrieved reports and accumulates them through "snowball" style.Finally,60 hot words of "war-style discourse" are selected as the research object of this paper.In addition,it also expounds the division basis of "two periods and four stages" in this paper.In the second chapter,through the way of text analysis,the author makes a quantitative statistical analysis on the frequency of some hot words in different periods,combined with the observation and induction of the specific corpus.Two major characteristics are summarized: one is the generalization of the expression of "war discourse" in the news report of "People's Daily" as a whole.The other is the difference between the two periods.It can be described as a "revolutionary" discourse-driven model and a 'construction' discourse-driven model.Chapter 3 focuses on the construction of news themes involved in the "war-like discourse" buzzwords in the news reports of People's Daily since 1949.And summarizes the respective functions of "war discourse" in the news reports in the two periods from its metaphorical functions.That is the early stage mainly serves "class struggle" and "military activities",while in the later stage it turns to the new direction of service,economic development and modernization.Starting from the interactive relationship between discourse changes and social context,the fourth chapter obtains the reasons for the above changes by analyzing the three dimensions of social politics,social economy and mass media.In the early stage,it was mainly influenced by the "class struggle" and the "left" trend of thought,and paid attention to the class struggle and binary opposition,but ignored the economic construction and development.Afterwards,the national focus turned to social construction,talent training,legal construction and other themes.The fifth chapter focuses on the characteristics of the times and the parts worthy of reflection on the evolution of the expression of "war discourse" in media reports."Warfare discourse" can visualize abstract things and concepts to the audience through "war reference".It will give sufficient visibility to important events,and can quickly build social identity as a whole in a special period.However,the extensive use of it also exposes some problems such as the media's lack of courage to explore new discourse resources and discourse style,and may even lead to one-sided media reports,resulting in news reversal events.or make the audience fall into the argument of "binary opposition" and ignore other social problems behind the event.Therefore,there is an urgent need for the mainstream media to innovate their own mode of news discourse and introduce new and consultative discourse content to resolve contradictions and conflicts,changing with time,place and situation,rather than blindly using "war discourse".Or generalize all news events.The expression of "warlike discourse" in news reports has a number of features such as proclamation,metaphor and warning.However,if the mainstream media wants to use it correctly in the report,There is also a need to better understand the specific information needs of the audience.On the basis of grasping the trend of public opinion,appropriate use.
