With the government and all sectors of society pay more attention to popular science work,the development environment of science popularization in China is constantly improving,the number of various science popularization venues and facilities is constantly increasing,and the capacity of public service of science popularization is also constantly improving.As the social welfare cultural institution,public library has the responsibility and mission to carry out social science popularization education,and is one of the main positions to carry out science popularization activities.In recent years,public libraries have actively explored and carried out a series of popular science activities for children,but there are few researches on the effects of these activities.To evaluate the performance of popular science activities for children in public library is beneficial to further improve the quality and efficiency of activities.In this context,this paper takes Pudong Library as an example to conduct an empirical study on the performance evaluation of popular science activities for children in public libraries,aiming to facilitate its further development through evaluation.Firstly,this paper systematically sorts out the current status of domestic and foreign research on the performance evaluation of children's popular science activities in public libraries,so as to provide a reference for the construction of the evaluation index system in the following.Then,this paper chooses provincial public libraries and first-class children's libraries to carry out a comprehensive investigation,and summarizes the practice status of children's popular science activities from three aspects: the content and form of children's popular science activities,the service objects and subjects of the activities.Then,on the basis of the theory of "3E",refer to the research on library service performance evaluation and popular science activities performance evaluation in relevant literature,initially select the evaluation index system,and consult the opinions of experts and scholars in the field of library and information and librarians engaged in science popularization for children to further revise and improve index.Through the Delphi method and the analytic hierarchy process,the weight of each index is calculated,and the complete performance evaluation model of children's science popularization activities in public libraries is also constructed.Then,the evaluation model is applied to the empirical study of Pudong Library,and the performance of Pudong Library's popular science activities for children is evaluated through questionnaire survey.According to the field research,questionnaire survey and the result of performance evaluation,the achievements,shortcomings and problems of its popular science activities for children are analyzed and summarized.Finally,combined with the current practice of children's science popularization activities in public libraries,it puts forward specific suggestions on how to improve the performance of children's science popularization activities in public libraries.The ultimate purpose of performance evaluation is to promote the activities to be carried out better.This paper puts forward the following suggestions for the development of children's popular science activities in public libraries: One is to increase the emphasis on the development of popular science activities and increase the investment in popular science activities;The second is to strengthen the construction of science popularization resources and environment,and create favorable conditions for its development;The third is to attach importance to the construction of the science popularization talent team and improve the library's structure of science popularization talents;The fourth is to strengthen the cooperation with social forces and explore the "Library +" science popularization model;Fifth,establish an evaluation and feedback mechanism for popular science activities.
