| Due to the sudden and severe change of external environment caused by COVID-19 pandemic and the ever-larger pressure of being outpaced by rivals,as a small-sized enterprise who claims technology leadership being its major competitive advantage,WS Company recognizes that it needs to refresh and improve its R&D project management to shorten the R&D cycle.By taking the opportunity of commencing Project Gemini,a project team has been set up,aiming at programming and controlling the schedule of Gemini by employing selective project progress management theory and methodology.This paper targets at Project Gemini.Firstly,through an analysis of the current project schedule management status of WS Company,it states clearly that several problems ought to be solved,including the absence of more precise activity duration estimation,resource constraint expectation and control measures in whole schedule settlement and control process,and corresponding deficiency of the project management organizational structure,HR management & incentive mechanism and staff training in the company’s management system,have failed the effort to match Project Gemini’s duration with the strategic demand of WS Company.Secondly,with assistance from its consultant team,the newly formed project team for Project Gemini formulates an initiative of partly adjusting logical relations of original WBS to reach a 123-day schedule with a 43% decreasing compared with first edition,and employing PERT to further optimize Project Gemini’s schedule to meet the deadline of end Q3,2020,plus commencing the control by PB&FB installment and supervision.Thirdly,while facilitating certain improvement on the company management system including project management organizational structure,etc.,the project team consolidates the controlling plan to Project Gemini through 3 processes including the schedule monitoring,deviation detection and schedule adjustment.Lastly,this paper assesses the implementation of this enhanced schedule briefly,stating that schedule monitoring and control measures including PB&FB adjustment have effectively solved certain problems which could otherwise jeopardize the project closure according to the schedule to gain 11.56%advantages on schedule compared with WS company’s demand.The schedule formulation and control techniques employed by this paper have been proved valid to WS’s strategic needs,and beneficial to the effort to establish a more scientific and comprehensive progress management mechanism in WS.Conclusively,at least certain outcomes and findings in this paper can be referred by enterprises and organizations within RF Energy industry. |
