Chen Hung-Fei,a Boone Library School graduate,was included in the Second Generation of the 20th-century Chinese library scholars,and has been regared as one of the representative figures in modern Fujian librarianship.Based on all kinds of first-hand historical materials,this paper makes a systematic survey of Chen Hung-Fei's life,achievements,and contributions.It first gives a detailed introduction to his school experiences in Point Breeze Academy,Shantung Christian University(Cheeloo University)and Boone Library School,as well as his work experiences in several libraries in Shantung Province,Shanghai City and Fujian Province.It then summarizes his contributions in different libraries,and makes an analysis of his academic achievements,especially those in cataloguing and classification,index,and translating forieng library science.It is found out that his academic achievements were widely spread after their publication,and are still valued by contemporary scholars.In the end,it makes some objective comments on his library career,aiming to provide some reference for both Chinese librarianship and Chinese librarians in the future.
