"Library Science" is a modernization term, the Chinese Library Science of the modern sense is a young discipline. For such rising one, even if late 19th century to the 20th century is not the entire history of this young discipline, but at least it is the main history. Chinese Library Science had began to sprout since the late Qing Dynasty, and roughly founded in the Early Republic of China, during which a solid foundation for the modern library thoughts was laid. From Late 19th to early 20th century, just when the modern library industry in China replaced the old modes with new ones, progressive and backward fierce struggled, and is also the period that the declining of the ancient libliotheca, the rising of modern library, meanwhile the western with a cultural conflict and integration of incoming which influenced the development of modern libraries in China. Library science in this period has left us extremely rich theoretical heritage, and inheriting this legacy is significant of major importance to carry forward the spirit of scientific libraries and to promote the development, reform and innovation of library science in the new century. This article is based on the most important period of our library developmental history, and aims to explore this magnificent historical progress from its beginning to foundation, based upon this significant period of time in China's library developing history.
