In 2020,the COVID-19 epidemic broke out in China.As a representative of mainstream media,The People's Daily added emotional factors to the report,and used the strategy of empathy on the Weibo platform to complete typical personal reports and social news reports during the epidemic.This study focuses on the characteristics and strategies of empathic of epidemic reports,and takes both sides as research objects: Firstly,based on the characteristics of the epidemic report of the People's Daily,the crossanalysis was used to explore the relationship between the report and the emotion contained in the empathy.The second is from the audience,that is,the audience will experience three stages of empathy,to explore the relevant factors that affect the completion of empathy,and how these factors affect the effect of empathy communication.By studying the relationship between the reports of The People's Daily's Weibo platform and the empathic during the epidemic period and the application of empathic strategies,it is helpful for mainstream media such as The People's Daily to better meet the new needs of audiences for reports in the era of integrated media,and then better undertake the social responsibility of guiding public opinion.In this article,738 valid samples are selected from the microblogs published by the People's Daily in 2020.The content analysis method is adopted to conduct coding analysis on the report form,subject type,character type,emotion expression way and cross analysis with the emotion contained in the empathic communication,and deeply discusses the report content and audience comments of the People's Daily through text analysis.At the same time,the author found 9 audiences who paid attention to the microblog information of The People's Daily during the epidemic period and conducted focus groups interviews,which linked the content of the report with the empathy effect of the audience,then demonstrate and supplement the characteristics of the report of empathy.The results show that the characteristics of the epidemic report itself,the distance between the audience and the empathy object,the psychological state of the audience and other factors will affect the empathy effect.The epidemic report of the empathy strategy can enable mainstream media such as the People's Daily to better resonate with the audience,but we should also pay attention to the negative impact that empathy may bring to the audience,such as empathy fatigue.The mainstream media should learn from the successful experience of the People's Daily epidemic report,and pay attention to grasp the rhythm and scale of the report when using empathy strategy to complete the report,so as to seek multi-party cooperation and achieve a win-win situation with the audience.
